Integrative medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.
— Dr. Andrew Weill

The goal of this type of medicine is to use all the tools that are available to treat the person.  Integrative Medicine still emphasizes the evaluation of any therapy through the lens of science, but doesn't limit itself only to medications or surgeries.  Therefore, it has concepts that are fundamental to the early days of medicine, including long visits with the patient and getting to know patients lives to understand their disease.  However, it also has concepts that are at the cutting edge of medicine, including advanced lab testing and personalized medicine.
